Born in the imagination of billionaire developer Raymond Shaw, RSI Towers is located on Fifth Avenue, between Layden Lane and State Street. The twin glass towers reach seventy-one stories skyward and overlook City Park to the West. A two level sky bridge connects the towers at the thirtieth and thirty-first floors. The skybridge concourse is a crossroads for a variety of entertainment venues. Designed by the architectural firm James Rossi and Associates, in consultation with RS Investment Group's Environmental Architectural Engineer, Dr. J.R. Kane, the towers are constructed of steel-reinforced concrete columns clad in stainless steel and glass. Close to thirty-seven thousand tons of steel were used to build RSI Towers, a weight equivalent to three thousand elephants. High speed elevators require ninety seconds to travel from the sub-level parking garage to the 71st story of each tower. Combined, the towers have 32,000 windows. A month is required to wash the windows of each tower just one time. So called Smart Glass partitions the tenants of RSI Towers from the outside world and the elements, while allowing the warmth and illumination of sunlight to pass through. Smart Glass allows residents and building administrators to change its properties on demand. The mere push of a button transforms the liquid-crystal glass from clear to frosted, turning a see through window into a visual barrier from the outside, while providing a magnificent view of the city from the inside. No space-consuming or dirt collecting shades, curtains or blinds are needed. Suspended particles contained in the glass turn white or colored when solar heat surpasses a pre-determined temperature and, in the process, cutting interior cooling costs. That same solar glass helps heat the towers in Winter. The lights of the twin glass towers will help illuminate the surrounding downtown streets and avenues as well as the city park across Fifth Avenue. In doing that, RSI Towers helps to make the environment safer and brighter for pedestrian traffic. The North and South Towers are devoted almost entirely to professional and commercial office space. One, two, and three bedroom apartments, plus several luxury penthouses are offered and reasonably priced. New businesses are encouraged to locate their offices in The RSI Towers. Tenants of both towers enjoy the convenience of in-tower restaurants, cocktail lounges, and nightclubs. A variety of national and multi-national corporations and government offices are located in RSI Towers. Directories for the towers are located in the high speed elevator which service both spires. Housekeeping, maintenance, and security services are provided for business and residential tenants. Cable television and high speed Internet access is included with every lease. An underground parking garage is open twenty-four hours a day. A private and discreet private elevator in the underground garage offers patrons of The Glass Cage and La Serenissima bdsm club their own entrance at any hour of the day or night. Tower lobbies automatically lock at 2:30 A.M, and after hours tenants and guests may access RSI Towers by using electronic key codes.
